In 2025, we conducted the first-ever survey designed to map the current state of European cinema accessibility to historically marginalised people and groups – for example, people with disabilities, youth, older adults, LGBTQIA+ people. We collected responses from 89 cinemas in 83 cities across 27 countries.
More than 92 % of the cinemas offer their program and services to youth and older adults.
71.9% feature films from historically marginalised filmmakers
64% provide accessible seating.
Only 25% have a team responsible for access and inclusion efforts.
90% of cinema websites do not meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
30% employ zero staff members from historically marginalised groups.
